Installing a Deck
When it comes to building a deck, we are experts. As landscapers we have been installing decks in our clients’ gardens for many years. We prefer using composite wood for all our deck builds, as it is non-slip, splinter free and highly durable. Because our decking is made from 60% recycled coloured plastic and 40% recycled wood, it is also a more sustainable choice.
To help you choose which of our eight colours is right for your deck building project we offer free decking samples.
Before you start building a deck in your garden or outdoor space, read our step-by-step guide to installing a deck, as there are a few key things you need to get right for the best results:
-
Excavate or clear the area to be decked.
-
Lay anti-weed fabric on the area.
-
Install either wood or preferably composite posts concreted into the ground at the corners of the area and then at maximum intervals of 1.5m apart.
-
Attach wooden or composite joists no more than 400mm apart from centre to centre, making sure they are all level.
-
Attach decking tape to the tops of the joists to provide extra protection against weathering, especially on wood.
-
Start laying chosen decking boards using starter clips to fix the first row into place and then use T-fixings which will ensure the gaps between the boards are consistent.
-
If you are laying a more complex design, it would be advisable to plan out your design first and double check any measurements before cutting.
